“It’s Only Rock ’N’ Roll” now digitized

Forty-one issues of the indie music newspaper It’s Only Rock ’N’ Roll have been digitally preserved by The Wittlliff Collections at Texas State University. You can view the inventory here.

Published in San Antonio by music journalist Ron Young, the preserved issues cover the period from March 1978 to April 1982.  It’s Only Rock ’N’ Roll chronicled the rise of punk, New Wave and heavy metal in San Antonio and Austin. In its pages – presented in PDF format — can be found interviews, music columns, record and concert reviews, graphic art, photographs by Robbin Cresswell and Clyde Kimsey, concert listings, calendars and advertisements.

Young died in May 2017. The musician/songwriter and longtime music columnist at the San Antonio Light and contributor to the San Antonio Express-News was 67.

It’s Only Rock ’N’ Roll was processed by Wittliff archivist Lauren Goodley. The collection was donated by Nikki Young in November 2017.
